February Social – Dísablót Celebration

Late update: The site has said we can not use the space outside for activities, even the parkin lot. This means the tournament will not occur.
Reminder: If you want to bring your in-process tunics, please do so as there should be space and time to work on them.

Offering Competition:

Traditionally, offerings are made to female ancestors and goddesses and placed on an altar. The offerings could be meat, bread, cheese, beer, mead, or other delicacies.

In this competition bring an offering to be presented and place on the alter (table). Prizes will be given to the tastiest and to the best presentation.

 Tournament of Our Ancestors

Fighters, don your armor and enter the list to honor your female ancestor or deity. What better test of those of us in the north than to fight in the snow. This will be a simple round-robin, open tournament. Prizes will be granted to the victor and to the one who fought most honorably for their inspiration.

Crafts to Inspire Spring

In some cultures, this celebration also includes preparations for spring in hopes that winter will soon be gone. Our activities will include making:

  • Seed cakes for creatures
  • Flower seed bombs
  • And block printing

Feast of Our Ancestors

This will be a pot luck feast. Your host, Rowan and Æsa will provide a meat dish from a recipe handed down. You too, bring a dish from a recipe handed down to you from your ancestor. Be sure to honor them in your preparation and presentation. Remember to bring your feast gear!

Honoring Goddesses

Near the end of the feast we will play a trivia game, “Name that Goddess or Valkyrie”. You will have access to a list of Goddesses and Valkyries. Your Hosts will show pictures and give a brief description of who you are seeing. You choose which Goddess or Valkyrie we are describing. The one guesses the most correctly wins. May Freya guide you in this.

  • Trash and Recycling must be removed with us (We will have garbage bags and a means to haul them a way). J
